The main difference between Compression ignition engine (diesel engine) and spark ignition engine(petrol engine) is that
In spark ignition engine the during power stroke and the pressure reaches 35-60 bar..The power is achieved by the combustion and this combustion is achieved by igniting the petrol through the spark plug. The maximum temperature reaches 2200-2500 degree Celsius
However in compression ignition engine (diesel engine) the diesel is compressed up-to 70-80 bar.and at this high pressure the diesel ignites itself and doesn't requires any spark.
